For my internship at Rec Room Recording I completed a mixing and mastering training course. "The Citadel" is one of the songs that I mixed and mastered. This is a metal song that has high energy, and I wanted to keep that energy in the mix. In this mix I took a top down mixing approach and brought the best qualities of this song. I used EQ to cut away frequencies that weren't needed and boosted the ones that enhanced certain instruments and vocals, used compression to even out dynamics and lift up quieter parts that should be heard, and created a better stereo image using panning, reverb, and different delays. In mastering I did minimal changes. I did some EQ to clean up buildup in the mid range, and then used shaped the tone using Izotope and Waves plugins. I then used a limiter to get it to bring up the volume.
