First Offering is a hip-hop song by Dom McLennon that was recorded with the microphone company Telefunken. I was able to download the raw multitracks from the recording and completely mix and master it myself. This was a challenging mix because a lot of the parts were clashing with each other. The guitars were masking the vocals, some of the cymbals had harsh frequencies that were covering up a lot of high end information from other tracks, the electric keys were covering a lot of the vocals as well. I made it my goal to clean up as much as I could with levels, panning, and EQ to get as much clarity as possible. Another challenge was getting the vocals to sound less harsh and more full. The vocals had some very harsh sibilances and I fixed that with EQ and a De-esser. After the mix was complete I brought it into a new mastering session and used reference tracks from other similar Hip-Hop artists to get the sound I was going for. In this mix and master I used a wide variety of plugins from Waves, Izotope, Soundtoys, and stock plugins.
